They told me it would be easy
That it was in my blood
That it would come naturally to me
I wrote a poem once
And I compared it to theirs
Their poems full of words and meaning
My poem wasn’t the same anymore

And though they told me otherwise
My poem did not compare to theirs
My poem was small
And I though they were wrong

And that poem was locked away
Away so people couldn’t tell me it was good out of pity
