The Best Halloween Candy

Halloween just passed, and we had a lot of candy. We either ate them or passed them out to trick or treaters and friends- but of all those candies, which one is the best?

What is the best chocolate candy?

What is the best fruity/non-chocolate candy?

Which type of candy is better based on the two previous answers?

And which type of candy do people like more: their favorite chocolate candy or their favorite fruity/non-chocolate candy?

Well, I asked Ms. Ducolon’s classes about their favorite candy, and the results were interesting, as 18 people filled out the survey.

Here are the results:

Question One:

  • One said, “100 Grand Bar.”
  • One said, “3 Musketeers.”
  • One said, “Hershey’s Chocolate.”
  • Four said, “Kit-Kats” (They are not together because they are capitalized and spelled differently).
  • Two said, “Milky Ways” (They are not together because they are capitalized and spelled differently).
  • Four said, “Reese’s” related things (They are not together because they are capitalized and spelled differently).
  • Two said, “Snickers.”
  • One said, “York Peppermint Patties.”
  • One said, “M&M.”
  • One said, “Whoppers.”

The verdict is that most people like Kit-Kats and Reese’s related things the most, with a two-way tie between Snickers and Milky Ways, and a six-way tie between other chocolate candies like M&Ms and 3 Musketeers. If I had to say, I would go with Kit-Kats and Reese’s related things.

Question Two:

  • One said, “candy corn.”
  • One said, “Dum-Dum Lollipops.”
  • Five said, “Skittles” (They are not together because they are capitalized and spelled differently).
  • One said, “Starburst or Skittles.”
  • One said, “Sour Heads.”
  • One said, “Sour Patch Kids.”
  • One said, “Starbursts.”
  • One said, “Airheads.”
  • One said, “Jolly Ranchers.”
  • One came back inconclusive.
  • One said, “Smarties.”
  • One said, “sour gummy worms.”
  • One said, “sour watermelon.”
  • One said, “Twizzlers (black).”

The verdict is that Skittles came in first place while there was an 11-way tie between most of them, a person who said Starburst or Skittles, and one that came back inconclusive. If I had to say, I would have to go with Skittles. For this one, people have more variety for other kinds of candy than the first question.

Question Three:

  • One person said, “candy corn” (so they like non-chocolate candy better).
  • 12 people said they like “chocolate” candy better.
  • Three people said they like “non-chocolate/fruity candy” better.
  • One said that it “depends on my mood.”
  • One came back inconclusive.

The verdict is that most people like chocolate candy better because it has 12 votes, while the opposition only has four votes, which includes the person who said candy corn. In addition, one person said that it depends on what they are craving, and one came back inconclusive. If I had to say, I would go with the person who said that it depends because I like both kinds, it just depends on the time.

Question Four:

  • Two-thirds said that they like the candy for question one (chocolate) better.
  • One-third said that they like the candy for question two (fruity/non-chocolate) better.

The results are that most people like their favorite chocolate candy over their favorite non-chocolate/fruity candy. If I had to say, I would go with question one over question two because I am never sick of Kit-Kats or Reese’s related things.

Overall, the survey results show that people have more diversity for non-chocolate/fruity candy over the not really diverse chocolate candy.

Also, the results show that people like chocolate candy more, in general, compared to their favorite non-chocolate/fruity candy.

But, what does this mean? Well, it means that people like a more specific selection of chocolate candy, and like it better in general, compared to a very spread-out non-chocolate/fruity candy selection.

So for next Halloween, get a large and specific selection of chocolate candy like Kit-Kats, Reese’s related things, and Milky Ways and a fewer yet diverse selection of fruity/non-chocolate candy for the trick or treaters.
