You’re at the Halloween store; trying to pick out the perfect costume for the 31st. Is this really what you want to dress up as? Is this the best costume? What is genuinely the most perfect choice to get into the Halloween spirit? There isn’t a definitive answer to this question. However, there are perspectives to consider on this topic.
How did Halloween start?
Halloween originated around 2,000 years ago; invented by Celtic people in Europe and was celebrated at the end of harvest, as well as the start of a new year in a festival called Samhain. Initially, Halloween was traditionally celebrated as lighting bonfires and wearing costumes to ward off ghosts. Nowadays, it’s more reserved to trick-or-treating or partying. Thus, the culture surrounding “dressing up” has changed over the years; along with its purpose.
What do Pentucket students think about Halloween?
Students here at Pentucket were questioned about their favorite Halloween costumes. AJ Haynes, a senior at Pentucket, had something to share. For his favorite costume, AJ chose Jareth the Goblin King. And for his favorite memory; it would be when he trick-or-treated with his friends and played manhunt. AJ didn’t really enjoy his cactus costume for his least favorite; as good as it looked, it hurt to wear.
Jonah Brien, a junior at Pentucket, dressed as Garfield one year, and that was his favorite costume because he’s “flipping awesome.” Jonah doesn’t have a favorite memory; but he had a least favorite costume. He picked a stormtrooper. Stating; “It kinda sucked.”
Regan Breen, a sophomore at Pentucket, chose Cinderella for her costume from when she was five. Commenting; “It was adorable.” Her favorite memory from Halloween was running around to all the houses as a child. Regan’s least favorite costume was her cheetah costume; she hated the fact that she wore a tail and ears.
Jestina Owen, a sophomore at Pentucket, stated that her favorite costume is when she matched with her two best friends as the Powerpuff Girls. Her favorite memory was getting $25 from a richer neighborhood when they ran out of candy. For her least favorite costume she chose Draculaura due to her wearing it for three years, saying she should have done something different.
Arthur Craig, a freshman here at Pentucket, his favorite costume was his Spiderman costume; stating it was really cool and that he liked it. Craigs’ favorite memory was getting a king-sized bar, and for his least favorite costume he does not have one.
Amelia Crowe, a 10th grader at Pentucket, had her favorite costume be a can of cheese balls, (yes, really), and her favorite memory was going to a Halloween party. She has never had so much candy in her life. However, she disliked her butterfly costume from 2nd grade; “I made the costume myself but it was bad.”
Hunter Tocci, a senior at Pentucket, stated his favorite costume was a gorilla costume. For his favorite memory, he decided walking down the street and looking at the houses that took decorations seriously were his favorite memories. However he disliked his Freddy Kreuger costume; because it was rubbery, hot, and damp.
Lucy Collins, a sophomore, said her favorite costume was a flapper girl costume, due to the great memories and funny videos filmed. Lucys’ favorite memory was going trick or treating as a zombie when they hit all the good neighborhoods. A less favorable memory was when Lucy dressed up as Cleopatra. After going through the bushes, she got sticky burrs and it ruined her night.
Emily Gleason, a senior, says her favorite costume was a pumpkin from when she was a baby; stating the pictures were funny. Emily’s favorite memory was trick-or-treating when she was little. However she disliked the fact that she wore a Rapunzel costume three years in a row; Emily was always upset that she didn’t have blonde hair like hers.
Summary
In conclusion, your Halloween costume varies depending on your personal opinion, and you should stay true to yourself. When you go Halloween costume shopping; do what’s right for you.
