As a jewelry maker, I can confirm how hard but rewarding this craft is. A lot of time and money is needed to be a successful seller or maker. There are many different types of jewelry you can make such as pendants, rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc, and each type requires different resources and skills. However, once you have the basics down it is easy to create and you can make your ideas come to life.

Listed below are the different types of jewelry and what you will need to create it. These materials are found at most craft stores like Micheals or Joann Fabrics. Sometimes, you may need to order online for specific items or beads. I recommend Amazon for those who want to try out jewelry making; for those who are invested, I would recommend Fire Mountain Gems or Etsy.

Different Materials Needed for Jewelry Projects:

For stretchy bracelets you will need:

• Bracelet strings such as Stretch Magic or Beadalon: you can get various sizes like 0.8 mm or 0.5 mm.
• Good quality beads are required because the tacky ones like Pony Beads do not look good. There are many types of beads to choose from such as seed beads, crystal beads, ceramic, or czech glass beads.
•  Scissors to cut the string 
• You will need to make good knots to keep the bracelet from falling apart. Make multiple knots to tie the bracelet together. 
• You may need small charms that can be put on bracelets like a name tag or flower etc. Charms are sold at most crafts stores.

For string bracelets you will need:

These bracelets are made with embroidery string instead of stretchy plastic string. String bracelets are most likely known as friendship bracelets. There are many different patterns to choose from such as Chinese staircase, candy stripe, or chevron. 

• Embroidery floss/string of any color, but it is a good idea to get a set so you can make many different colored bracelets.
•  Scissors or string cutters
• You may need a safety pin or clipboard to hang the string on. You can use the safety pin to clip the bracelet to your jeans after making the knot, or for using a clipboard; you will just need to knot it and put it through the clipboard. You may want a pattern book or a book of all the different bracelets (this one is optional).

For dangly earrings you will need:

• Pretty beads like those mentioned in stretchy bracelets.
•  Headpins or eye pins (choose which size you want).
•  Wire cutters.
• Round nose pliers
• Chain nose pliers
• Ear wires

For necklaces you will need:

• Flexible beading wire
• Crimps
• Necklace clasps

• Beading board (this is optional if you want to see the layout before you put your beads on the string)
