As the cheerleading competition season starts, it is important to appreciate the hard work and tireless effort that has gone into the routine and practices. Coming up at the start of the season was Reid’s Rally.
Reid’s rally was an invitational hosted by the Pentucket Varsity Cheerleaders and the coaches. Coach Julie Freitas says, “When we were thinking about what we should have the invitational be about we thought immediately Reid.” Reid was a former pentucket football player who died of leukemia six years ago. In his memory and to help other families suffering from leukemia themselves, this fundraiser and invitational was started with the intention of all money raised going to those unfortunate families.
The team did an amazing job this weekend at the competition, considering the fact that they had suffered two injuries which caused some setbacks; but no matter what, the girls stepped up and made it work. Being a cheerleader myself, I have watched so many difficult practices and so much hard work being put into this routine and it is very clear this season is going to be amazing.
The cheerleaders this year have worked day in and day out to make this work and it truly has paid off. The competition this weekend went well, and no matter what, the team had fun and had a great performance. CALs is coming up on November 7th, and we can confidently say the team is more than determined. As coach Freitas says, “This is the most determined, confident group of girls I’ve had, they want it more than any others I’ve coached and that says something.”
