Being a student in Pentucket, it’s easy to notice a lot of talk about the old school and how good it was, or how people miss it. To get an idea, a friend gave me his opinions on both of the schools.
Aaron Wirwicz had a strong opinion on the matter. He was asked, what did you like about the old school? He said, “I like the old school for its character, [there were] lots of good memories in that building.” He was then asked what he didn’t like about it: “I thought it was a little dirty, [there were] some very odd smells.” All of what Aaron said was agreeable. The old school had a lot of character and many memories packed into that old building. Yes, it was very dirty, but that’s also what made it what it was.

He was then asked about the new school, with the same set of questions for the old school. He said, “I like how it’s very open, and [there are] a lot of places to do work.” This is reasonable. With all of the breakout rooms and the different dining areas, it is nice to be able to find a space by yourself to get some work done. He was then asked what he didn’t like: “There is no character to the school, like nothing on the walls.” What Aaron said was agreeable, because character is a big part of the high school experience.
Eventually, the new school will have the same character and aura that the old school had. Although I appreciate and like all of the nice new things, part of me misses that old school. And this isn’t meant to sound ungrateful, but maybe it’s a sign to liven up the school a bit and take parts from the old school which we loved.
