If you are anything like me, you love to read. Books, of all kinds, can be a solace for people of almost any age.
A few years ago, I discovered the incredible fantasy world created by Sarah J. Maas. She is the author of the “Throne of Glass” series, which this article will be about, the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series, and the “Crescent City” trilogy.
While “A Court of Thorns and Roses” (ACOTAR) is one of her most well known series because of all of its attention on social media, the “Throne of Glass” series is one of the most well-written and complex series I, personally, have ever read.
Take the plot for example: The main character, Celena Sardothien, is an assassin who enters a competition at the palace. This competition leads her to many new discoveries about herself and the kingdom she lives in.
Then there is the sub-plot. This is much more subtle and I myself did not even realize it until I had finished the series. The sub-plot sends the message that small acts of kindness can change the world. Although this seems relatively simple, the way that it is portrayed throughout the story is incredible.
Let’s move on to Maas’ world-building abilities. This is a necessary skill for any fantasy writer, and Maas has mastered it. Talon Marks writes, “The author is very creative in using every character’s experience throughout the series to create an amazing story.” Maas creates a stunning world that encapsulates every aspect of the story she is trying to portray.
Like most of Maas’ books, they are aimed towards the young adult (YA) crowd. Nonetheless, I started reading her books relatively young, and people of all ages have read and adored her books. So even if you feel like you are too old, please try and pick up one of her books anyways, especially if you have a love of fantasy.
Even if you have not read her books, there are many more options out there!
For example, Pentucket senior Ava Greenbaum recommended the “Shadow and Bone” series by Leigh Bardugo. Goodreads recommended “The Chronicles of Narnia” by C.S Lewis and “A Game of Thrones” by George R.R Martin, among many others.
Ultimately, “Throne of Glass” is a riveting book that I highly recommend if fantasy is the genre for you. If not, please go and find something that looks appealing at your local library!
