Some sports at Pentucket have done great things in their fall seasons, while some of the sports are not doing as well as we wish for. However, there’s something nobody talks about when it comes to high school sports, camaraderie.
A big part of why sports are so loved and cherished is the comradery. Celebrating with your teammates on a good victory, or messing around at practice.
With this in mind, my personal experience this past fall as a captain of the boys soccer team, there are some memories that will stick with me for a long time. Even though our season didn’t shape out to what we hoped, I can still look back and smile on some of our best memories.
Jake Lacroix, a sophomore and center back on the team was asked, “What was your favorite memory from this past season?” He said: “The Rockport win was by far the best memory. We danced and sang the ENTIRE bus ride home. I loved just being the boys and creating a great atmosphere. It was also a great game, it was a hard-fought win. Matthew Silva scored first giving us the lead, then Rockport responded. Then you [Brayden Jennings] scored a penalty drawn by Owen Corkery to give us the 2-1 win. This was a great game especially because nobody expected us to win. But we left the school with our heads high and a win.”
I agree with Jake that beating Rockport on the road was my favorite memory of the season as well. There was a lot of high anticipation for this game. Especially because the year prior they beat us 9-1, and we traveled to Rockport, and on their terrible field. We came out with a hard-fought 2-1 win. Rockport’s team was expecting an easy win, but our team showed up with something different that day. Celebrating with the whole team after the win was also a large part of why I loved this game so much. Walking out of the field blaring music, and the same thing the whole bus ride home. A memory that I will never forget.
Mac Cole, a teammate of mine and Jake seemed to have the same opinion, saying, “I think it’s a no-brainer that the Rockport game was my favorite, between winning when we weren’t supposed to, and the good vibes after beating a team that demolished us last year. A game on the road is always special too.”
Although the team did not have a season they were expecting, it’s always good to look back on moments like these. High school sports don’t last forever which is why it is important to remember and look back on moments like these. In conclusion, it is important to appreciate the good moments.
