Have you ever been taken for granted? Have you ever had to stand up and fight for what you believe in? Come and see the Pentucket Regional Middle School’s production of Newsies Jr. to see what the 1899 newsboys of New York did to face these challenges!
What is Newsies?
Newsies is a meaningful but short production, only about an hour long. It is loosely based on the 1899 strike that was organized by the newsboys in New York. It is full of fun songs that are bound to make audiences feel a variety of emotions.
Brooke Snow, the director of the show, describes this show as “Very empowering and very sweet. It can be described as many different things based on the way people view its contents. Some may think it is silly while others might see it as a way for people to rise up and relate to.”
The cast also has much to say about this show. Louie Sayani, who plays the leading role of Jack Kelly, states, “It is an amazing production and the people are so talented.” Along with this, Lila Dell Isola who plays lead Davy Jacobs, mentions that “Being a part of this has been a great experience and the show is just amazing!”
Others, such as Kelly Rivers who plays Katherine Plumber say, “The cast is interesting because there are so many personalities but together we are one big working unit.” It can be said that this show has a number of different attributes that add to its uniqueness, and for the cast it is just booming with personality and excitement.
Another thing to note is this show is quick and fun, full of sweet moments that move hearts. Snow also states, “This is the perfect show for middle schoolers,” because the music is not too challenging and Newsies is just joyful for a bunch of individuals. It is just a good time all around.
Cast and Coming Together
The cast of Newsies is nothing short of hardworking. This show involves singing and dancing on top of acting. These things are not easy and thus take hard work and dedication, which is just what these kids bring with them when they rehearse.
Though there is only a short time until the show, which is to take place on Jan. 10 and 11, these middle schoolers are focused and determined to get this show perfected for audiences. It is shocking to see how well people can come together to work towards a common goal. They are ready for this show and excited to perform.
Moreover, the choreography in this show can be hard to learn if a person does not pick it up easily. Along with this, some of the cast members themselves are making choreography which takes a lot of work. It is truly amazing to think that these kids are putting in so much effort to make this production truly come to life.
It can clearly be seen that these students are putting in their all to make sure that this show is a big success. This production is going to be great and it is clear that the cast will not let it be anything other than that.
Impacts
This performance is about young people finding ways to use their voices. It can impact those who feel they have been silenced in life and they can be encouraged to stand up for themselves. Especially when it comes to younger audiences, kids do not like being told what to do and thus find that they do have a say in some matters in their lives.
This hit also showcases following your dreams and working hard for what you believe in. When people are inspired they can tend to feel more motivation towards working for what they want, and this musical has just that impact.
The newsboys of New York did not quit when things got tough. They united to show that they were ready to stand up and put up a fight to those who treated them poorly. This can impact audiences in a way that makes them feel as though they are a part of something greater by watching this musical.
Ultimately this is an inspiring as well as empowering piece, and with the work of the cast it has great odds of being a great triumph. When it comes showtime, this cast will be ready to perform and show the public the strength of the youth and that with hard work and dedication, people can come together to make a masterpiece.
