Boston’s athletes have high pressure to win, as the New England area has some of the highest expectations of their sports team. Granted, Boston sports have been very successful over the years. The dynasty of the New England Patriots won six Super Bowls with Tom Brady, the greatest football player of all time. He took the pressure well and made sure his teammates felt it too. The Boston Celtics, won 18 NBA titles including the one just last year, the most titles in the NBA. With a long list of legendary players and legacies that will be remembered for a long time. The Boston Red Sox have the third most titles in MLB history with nine and are widely regarded as one of the best baseball teams in history. Finally, the Boston Bruins, are an original six-team, which is the six original teams of the NHL. They have not been as historically great as they should be, or the other original six teams. But recently as of last year, the Bruins set the record for the best regular season record of all time. But as of this season, things have changed.
Bruins Early Season
After a monster year last year with head coach Jim Montgomery, the team had a rocky start to its season. Which led to Jim Montgomery being let go with a record of 8-9-3 at the time when he was released. Although it was not a great start, I view this as a poor decision made by the franchise. As the season was only 20 games in, Montgomery really did not have a chance to fix what was going on.
Bruins Up To Day
Bruins now after hiring Joe Sacco as the head coach, since the 8-9-3 record. Now have a record 23-19-6. Although an above .500 record seems like you’re doing well, comparing last season to this season is a huge drop in performance. And it has Boston fans upset with the current output of the team. Last year, Jeremy Swayman was playing at a very high level. Best goalie in the league by a wide margin, and really led this team to its outstanding regular season. And as a result of that, Swayman got signed to a huge contract in the summer. Which many saw as well deserved, although this season has been different to his performance last year. While renegotiating his contract, Swayman missed a large chunk of pre-season. Perhaps losing the respect from his teammates. Taking time out of pre-season to get the largest contract on the team, just to not perform at the same level?
Future
Although the Bruins are not holding themselves to a high playing level, anything can happen in the playoffs. That should be the team’s focus, because goalies can get hot, and things kick into a different gear in the playoffs. So although its not over, the Bruins’ sights on a playoff run are closing. And we will see what happens if they make it into the playoffs.
