It’s important to travel to get a sense of other places outside your home town, especially when you are young.
Traveling educates people about different cultures and environments and changes their perspective about the world. Traveling can even change how someone may view themselves, through exciting experiences.
There has been recent talk among the Pentucket community about the high school’s trip to Belize in the spring of 2026.
Located on the North East Coast of Central America, Belize is a very beautiful and serene place to visit.
The plans for the trip itself seem very exciting and are focused on engaging students about the principles of STEM, meaning that students will be participating in various hands-on activities.
A few of the activities include ziplining through the rainforest and visiting ancient ruins sight.
There is a lot of ancient history to learn and see when visiting Belize, in addition to the diverse ecosystems and wildlife.
The trip costs a total of $4,779, including a plane ticket, a variety of quality hotels, authentic meals and excursions.
Students can either set up a biweekly payment plan of $147 or a monthly payment of $293. The enrollment deadline is May of 2025. The dates of the trip are currently set for April 18th through April 25th.
The trip is offered to both middle school and high school students. If spots are completely filled, high school students will get first priority. As of today the total number of guaranteed spots is 36 students, so space is limited!
The trip has already been planned out and organized, therefore no student should feel unsure of how it may play out.
Here is the official itinerary of the trip to Belize!
Day one: Students will meet a highly experienced tour director at the airport. The plane ride takes approximately four hours and 47 minutes from Boston to Belize. Transportation throughout the entire tour will be provided for students.
Day Two: Students will travel to the Cayo Region and visit the rainforest. This is where students will participate in ecological activities such as an ethnobotanical walk, learning about the processes of plant growth and soil, and watershed quality assessment. Lastly, students will zipline through the Belizean Canopy.
Day Three: Students visit a local NGO, a Non-Governmental Organization, to learn about and participate in conversation efforts. Then, they will take a guided tour of Li Punit, a small but architecturally unique ancient Maya site in southern Belize.
Day Four: Students will visit a small sustainable farm and learn about climate-smart farming practice. Lastly, the group will learn about Mayan culture at a local village and make homemade tortillas.
Day Five: This day marks the shift towards the marine side of the trip. For example, students will explore the Port Honduras Marine Reserve. The property provides important habitat for a number of threatened marine species. Students will then visit Punta Negra to learn how climate change affects the community and learn about how the manatee population is monitored due to habitat destruction, entanglement in fishing gear, and boat collisions.
Day Six: Students will support biodiversity efforts during a reforestation project. They will also have the opportunity to learn Garifuna with an instructor. Garifuna is where there are two types of drums used, Primero (tenor drum) and Segunda (bass drum).
Day Seven: The last full day of the amazing trip to Belize. Students will take a day trip to Tobacco Caye, where they will snorkel along The Great Barrier Reef and take part in reef clean up. Afterwards, students will travel back to Belize City.
Day Eight: Students fly home. Any final information students must know about the trip will be set out two months prior to the tour. Other schools in the Cape Ann area may combine with the group if they request similar dates and destinations.
A trip to Belize will be a great opportunity to learn about a new culture and meet all kinds of different people and even other students from the other side of the world. Traveling to Belize is an amazing experience, and you should not miss out on this opportunity!
