Football is nearing its darkest time period since the early 1990s’ Dallas Cowboys.
Dynasties have always drawn the eyes of jealous football fans. The Patriots drew loads of criticism from fans and reporters alike during their dynasty from the early 2000s to 2019.
But this criticism was founded more for the fact that the Patriots would not stop winning. Sure, this is the cornerstone of what makes a dynasty great, but there comes a point when the loveable underdogs become the villain of the story.
For the Pats, this point came when they won their second Super Bowl in 2004 against the Carolina Panthers. From that point moving forward, the Patriots had an unmistakable aura of evil. They owned the fact that they were in fact the villains and that underdogs would try to beat them, but inevitably come up short.
This is not the case for the Kansas City Chiefs.
After watching Sunday night’s AFC Championship game between the Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills, fans from all over the nation took to the internet to show their thoughts about the game. Most people wrote about how the game was rigged from the start, often citing how the colors in the Super Bowl logo for the year will determine the two teams that will play each other.
Chiefs fans argued online with a barrage of claims ranging from denial to just saying that the Bills can never get it done against them, using the 0-4 record they have against the Chiefs in the postseason.
Personally, I just hate the entire Chiefs organization with a passion. I cannot stand Patrick Mahomes’ smugness and what can only be described as a toddler temper tantrum whenever he fails to get the result he wanted. Sure, us fans will always get upset whenever there is a play that does not go our way, but we know that there is always a chance, no matter how minute the chance is, that there is always a possibility.
Another part of the Chiefs that I despise is the constant flurry of people worshipping Travis Kelce solely because he is dating Taylor Swift. This dynamic of people tuning into football for their first time is surely great for revenue in the short term in the league’s perspective, but for us fans who grew up watching our favorite teams, the constant barrage of people saying “OMG it’s Taylor’s boyfriend. He’s the greatest player ever,” just gets so old and annoying.
Safe to say this year’s Super Bowl is the matchup that nobody wanted between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. With this being the second time in three years that these two teams meet in the biggest sporting event in the world, it is the worst possible matchup.
I will not be watching the Super Bowl for the same reason I haven’t watched the Super Bowl in three years. The outcome was predetermined. We all know that the Chiefs will win again plunging us into an eternal dark age until a hero comes and vanquishes the beast that is the Chiefs.
