Just Imagine…
For as long as I have participated in journalism, I have waited for an excuse to write about my favorite band of all time, Pearl Jam (they will be 25 years old in 2015: I am already planning an article of about nine hundred pages in length. You might say I’m slightly excited). And now, I finally, finally, have a sort-of chance. Their lead singer, Eddie Vedder (AKA the most beautiful voice in America), released a great cover of John Lennon’s iconic song “Imagine.”
No matter who sings it, the song is really worth a listen. It’s so peaceful and wonderful: I don’t think that you have to even like the Beatles to like this song, or Eddie Vedder, or any other person. It’s a timeless classic; I feel like everyone is practically born knowing the lyrics.
An added bonus to this great song: if you go and buy Vedder’s version of the song on iTunes, the profits go to HEARTBEAT: Amplifying Youth Voices, an organization which “unites Israeli and Palestinian youth musicians to build critical understanding, develop creative nonviolent tools for social change, and amplify their voices to influence the world around them.”How cool does that sound? A song about world peace going to promote young worldwide musicians is awesome. If you have the money, and four minutes to spare, why not?
