Tragedy occurred in land of beauty crowns and strapless gowns last Thursday.

María José Alvarado, better known as Miss Honduras 2014, vanished on Thursday, November 13^th, along with her sister Sofia Trinidad.

María José and Sofia were last seen leaving a Santa Monica, Honduras spa that was holding a birthday party for Miss Trinidad’s boyfriend. Witnesses stated that two sisters got into an unlicensed car with three unknown men.

Honduras authorities began the investigation of the girls’ disappearance by detaining four men. “Initially we detained ten, but six have been released” said police spokesman Lt. Joseph Coello.  One of the four men was Sofia’s boyfriend, Plutarco Ruiz, who had the mentioned birthday party.

Six days after the investigation was under way, police officials found what seemed to be the bodies of María José and Sofia, although forensic verification is still needed.

Alvarado, aged 19, was expected to fly to London in order to prepare for the 2015 Miss World Competition days before she disappeared. She won the Miss Honduras crown on April 26^th, 2014, after edging out 18 other beauty queen hopefuls.
