It’s a Beach Miracle
Since most of us New Englanders see the beach on a regular basis, looking at the mighty Atlantic might not leave us amazed.
This was not the case for Ruby Holt of Tennessee. The 100-year old woman saw the ocean for the first time, the perfect gift for her upcoming 101stbirthday.
Upon seeing the great blue sea, she said she had never seen anything as big as the ocean. “I’ve heard people talk about it and how wonderful it was and wanted to see it, but I never had the opportunity to do so,” Holt said.
Growing up in Giles County, Tennessee, Holt did not have the resources to travel all the way down to the ocean. Instead she found other ways to occupy her time, like raising her four children.
However, when the managers at her current residence, Brookdale Senior Living Solutions, found out about her life-long dream to see the beach, they took matters into their own hands.
They reached out to the Wish of a Lifetime organization, and together the groups were able to send Holt on an all-expenses-paid trip to Gulf of Mexico.
With the help of two workers from the Brookdale Senior Living Solutions and a motorized wheelchair, Holt was able to feel the gritty sand and fluidic water while at the beach.
Her response to the colossal Gulf ocean? “It’s cold,” was her only reply.
