Pentucket vs. Lynnfield Football

The Pentucket Sachems, now 8-1, won a thriller this Saturday, beating the Lynnfield Pioneers (6-3) 28-27. The game came down to the final seconds, as Lynnfield tried a desperation field goal from the Sachems 25 yard line to win the game. The kick was wide left, however, just barely missing the uprights, securing the win for Pentucket.

Right from the start, no one thought the game would end in such dramatic fashion. Despite being favored to win, the Sachems came out slow in the first half, giving up three quick touchdowns. The Pentucket offence could not get going either, going into half time losing 21-0.

The second half was a completely different story. The Sachems came out firing scoring on their first drive in the second half, junior Finn Graham connecting a pass with senior Travis Bouncy in the end zone. The Pentucket defense also improved in the second half shutting down the Pioneers first two drives in the 3rd quarter. The Sachems scored three more times, all the touchdowns belonging to Junior Liam Sheehy. In the fourth quarter the Sachems decided to gamble after the fourth score going for the two point conversion for the lead instead of the tie. Junior quarterback Finn Graham connected with Senior Kiernan Haley on a pass in the end zone to put the Sachems ahead with little time left on the clock.

Lynnfield was able to drive down the field in the last two minutes of regulation, but the field goal team could not convert, giving the Sachems a much deserved comeback win.

Pentucket will take on Ipswich next week home on Saturday.
