Pentucket’s Got Talent
Walking the Pentucket halls are several Pentucket students and faculty with hidden talents waiting to be unleashed. Several of these talents were revealed last Friday during our very own Pentucket’s Got Talent.
The talent show has been an ongoing student council project for almost two months.
Student council member Alanna Joachim stated that “we have been talking about doing a talent show since the beginning of the year, but it never happened. It’s nice to finally see it take place.”
School personality Simon Davis (who is commonly known for his announcements every morning) and his sister, Natalie, were expected to MC for the night; however, unforeseen circumstances, such as weather and illness, prevented the two from making the show.
Instead, junior Mike Labrecque and senior Ryan Gavin took their places as the hosts.
The show had nearly twenty acts that ranged from singing and dancing to magic and comedy.
Senior Class Clown, Jon Holewinski, recited an original song that may or may not have been completely improvised, about his love for a 75 year old woman.
His act titled ¨Jon Holewinski Doing Jon Holewinski Things¨ stunned many audience members and made the crowd roar with laughter.
Some students, such as Laura Hardenstine and Shannon Wesley, had been working on their performances for over three weeks.
Shannon stated that she and Laura had put together a medley of nearly fifteen songs and that they “put a lot of time and effort into the performance.”
Students, however, were not the only ones brave enough to grace the Pentucket stage. Several teachers debuted their talents alongside the students.
One of these teachers, Mr. Jacques, opted to perform if his tweet on Twitter received 100 retweets. The post received a whopping 112, and Mr. Jacques was forced to live up to his promise.
His act consisted of a variety of physics themed jokes, or “Stand Up Geekery,” and a physics themed rendition of the song “L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole, replacing “love” with the word force.
Mr. Bart also stopped by with his stellar take on the notorious “Ice, Ice Baby” rap. Though his rapping was up to par, his pink t-shirt and socks really made the number.
The most exciting part of the night, of course, was finally discovering who the judges thought should be crowned the winner of the show.
The prize was a whopping $100 for the winner, or winners, to enjoy.
The judging panel, which consisted of a student council member from each grade and three teachers, had quite the decision to make.
Sophomore judge Savana Silva said, “It was really stressful to pick the winner. Papers were flying across the judges’ table. In the end, I think we made the right choice.”
Who did this prestigious award go to: none other than Laura and Shannon.
In receiving the award, both girls thanked everyone who supported them and the audience for its positive reaction to their performance.
All the acts were amazing and are commended for their bravery and, of course, talent.
All the acts were amazing, and the show was an undeniable success.
Maybe the next time you find yourself walking side by side the many students at Pentucket, you’ll consider the diverse talents our school has to offer.
