Everything We Know About “Avengers: Endgame”
January 16, 2019
(WARNING Avengers: Infinity War Spoilers included)
Avengers: Endgame is the fourth Avengers movie and will be coming out on April 26, 2019. The directors, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and now are working on Endgame, the conclusion to Infinity War.
The Russo brothers described the name of the fourth Avengers movie as a hint to what would occur. Now we know that it was titled Endgame, and here’s why. Near the end of Infinity War, Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, says that, “We are in the end game now.” Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Junior, also mentioned the word endgame in Avengers: Age of Ultron when he had a vision of a threat to Earth. This all suggests that, even though Thanos has seemingly erased half of the population, there is still more of the game to play. The word endgame also means the final stage of a game which has made fans believe it is the end of this era of superheroes. According to Cnet, the term is also a chess word and Thanos has just pulled a checkmate, but the game is not over. Not only is there speculation about this end, but contracts of characters like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Star-Lord, Loki, Hawkeye, and Hulk are up and they might be leaving the MCU permanently, according to Screen Rant. There are also rumors that Iron Man could be replaced by a new female Iron Man character. The characters definitely staying are people that disappeared in Thanos’ snap, like Spiderman, played by Tom Holland, and Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman. This alludes that somehow the Avengers will be defeating Thanos and getting the missing half of the population back….. hopefully.
The MCU fandom was given their first look at Avengers: Endgame on Dec. 7, 2018, when the first trailer was released. The second trailer is predicted to be released in March. In the first trailer we saw Iron Man alone, drifting through space, with no food or water, recording a distress message. In Infinity War, Doctor Strange saves Tony Stark, or Iron Man, in return for giving up the time stone. Before this happens, Doctor Strange has gone through all the different outcomes of their battle against Thanos, and the Avengers only win in one scenario. This suggests that Doctor Strange knew Iron Man was important and therefore saved him. As Doctor Strange said, “There was no other way.” Hawkeye is also viewed in the trailer, which is significant because he was MIA in Infinity War. Also pictured was Ant Man, however the question is how did he get out of the quantum realm and is the speculation about the quantum realm being a factor in defeating Thanos true? We also learned from the trailer that Shuri, a character from Wakanda and the Black Panther movie, did not survive the snap, but this was never shown at the end of Infinity War.
One of the most anticipated appearances in Endgame is Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson. At the very end of Infinity War, in the after credits scene, Nick Fury realizes they are in trouble and contacts Captain Marvel right before disappearing in the snap. Captain Marvel is supposedly a powerful enough being to defeat Thanos and possibly could be the key to Endgame. Captain Marvel is having her own movie called Captain Marvel and it will be coming out on March 8, 2019. This may give some insight on what we can expect from her in Endgame.
Is this the last time we are going to see the original Avengers together, and will they win this battle?
