For decades, scientists have used animals such as monkeys, rabbits, and dogs to test out products and inventions. They test these animals to prevent testing on humans; and because they are small and easier to handle.

For example, a beagle is a very docile dog, which is why it is common for scientists and businesses to use this breed to test out products like makeup and skincare.

Many of you are probably imagining a dog sitting on a counter with makeup on its face and a dress on, when in reality these animals are treated horribly and injected with harmful chemicals.

These animals are treated like objects. Over 60,000 beagles are bred each year solely for the use of animal research, testing, and experimentation.

From the minute they are born, these animals are subjected to cruel and painful torture. Then once the tests are over, and the test subjects are not needed anymore; the animals often die by euthanization.

A statistic from a study done in Israel showed that only 3% of animals used in animal testing survive. But even then, the animals are usually killed anyway or used again in another experiment.

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is a nonprofit organization that is against  animal testing. Their motto is “Animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.”

PETA has accomplished a lot with the animal advocacy movement. They have stopped very well known clothing and fashion brands from using animal fur, exposed animal cruelty across the world, and even put an end to animals being used as test dummies in car crashes.

However, all these efforts are still not enough if people continue to support brands and companies that test on animals.

Listed below are 20 companies that do not test on animals. By looking at the list and instead supporting a company that is cruelty-free, you can make a huge change and help stop animal experimentation, testing, and harmful research.
