Bagnall STEM Collaboration

Through the course of three weeks, the Problem Solving class at the High School was involved with a collaborative project with the Bagnall Elementary school third graders. During this project high schoolers collaborated with third graders on biomimicry. The task of a project was to design an egg drop prototype that would protect the egg from cracking at certain heights. After building the prototype, the first drop was five feet, then ten, and if the egg was not cracked, it would be dropped from fifteen feet. About 90% of the class made it to the fifteen foot drop, and 75% had no crack in their egg after all three trials.
This project was one of the first projects where multiple district schools collaborated on one full project. The overall result was a big success and they plan on doing something like this again in the near future.

Great way to get the third graders interested in STEM. At the Page, we dropped them from four stories high and it was a lot of fun.

I loved stem in middle school so for our students to be able to go to another school and show the younger students what stem is really about is incredible!

Any interaction between younger and older students is great to see happening in our school. It is also great to know that younger students are given the opportunity to explore the field of STEM.

Expanding the topic of STEM to multiple schools should be a big success, as motivation can combine with collaboration to produce great results!

It’s good to see the high school students interacting with the Bagnall students on topics that are so hands-on. It really allows a good relationship to be built between high school students and elementary students.

I’m glad to see that Pentucket kids are showing interest in introducing the elementary kids to different ideas and projects that they would not have been exposed to previously.

That’s a great idea to bring stem to other schools. You can see lots of collaboration and hard work. Good to see students engaging in stem

STEM is a great topic in school and really helps students engage. The hands on work is excellent for high school, and bringing this subject to the Bagnall is great!
