Culture Shock TONIGHT!
This Wednesday, March 30th at 6 PM, the foreign language department will hold its annual cultural celebration. This extravagant event will include the esteemed International Idol singing competition, a scrumptious International Cookie Contest, salsa dancing lessons, and a new fundraiser inaugurated by Mrs. Kiernan.
Students from all foreign language classes have been working feverishly for well over a month in contribution to the various aspects of the special event. Many have opted to create artistic projects which pertain to their foreign language of choice, while others plan on participating in the annual bake-off.
As usual, the International Idol competition will take place, and students will be singing themselves silly, from German pop tunes to “La Bamba.” In addition, Mrs. Kiernan’s Spanish classes will be performing “Imagino” in unison, an inspirational Spanish folk ballad about making a change in the world.
Speaking of making a change, Spanish students have spent weeks creating a variety of lovely handbags, which will be sold at Culture Shock. All of the money raised from the fundraiser will be donated to Safe Passage, a charity which supports women and children living in poverty in Guatemala.
For the first time ever, Mrs. Kiernan’s Spanish II and Spanish III classes will be instructing the crowd on the art of dancing salsa. Spanish students have been practicing in class each day in order to reach mastery. In addition, they have completed two full length lessons with a certified dance instructor.
“Learning how to perform the salsa technique has changed my life. Not only am I a better dancer, but my chip dipping skills have drastically improved,” remarks sophomore Noah Elias-Guy.
From salsa dancing to cultural desserts, foreign language teachers and students predict that the event will be unforgettable. Don’t miss this exciting event tonight at six PM!
