The short list of the Time Person of the Year was released on the Dec. 3 airing on the Today Show. The Time Person of the Year award is given to the person or group of people who have had the largest impact on news during that year.

The Time Person of the Year, formally known as the Time Man or Women of the Year has been given out every year since 1927. The Time Person of the Year for 2016 was President Trump for winning the United States President Election. Other recent winners include President Barack Obama, Pope Francis, Mark Zuckerberg, and Ebola fighters.

The nominees this year are Jeff Bezos, Donald Trump, The #MeToo movment, Kim Jong Un, Colin Kaepernick, The Dreamers, Patty Jenkins, Robert Mueller, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Xi Jinping.

Jeff Bezos is the Chief Executive Officer of Amazon and the owner of the Washington Post. He announced that Amazon is looking for a place to build their second headquarters.

Donald Trump, the President of the United States has constantly been in the news in 2017 during his first year as president.

The #MeToo movement is the movement started which women told their stories of sexual assault which lead to some high profile people being accused of sexual assault.

Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea has constantly been in the news for testing missiles that can potentially reach the United States.

Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers started the national anthem protests which have continued this year even though he is no longer in the league, potentially for starting the National Anthem protest. He has also donated money towards causes he cares about and continued his pursuit for a safer country for African Americans.

The Dreamers, undocumented immigrants in the United States have been captured more by ICE during the Trump administration, which includes Trump’s plan of building a wall on the Mexico border.

Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Women was one of the first woman to direct a big budget movie breaking box office records for a movie directed by a woman.

Robert Muller, a special prosecutor has been leading the investigation against people connected to Trump and Russia.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has been leading the investigations against the royal family with corruption in Saudi Arabia.

Xi Jinping, the president of China since 2013, has been in the middle of the North Korea and United States conflicts during the past year, as Trump has been pressuring him into applying more pressure to North Korea because China is North Korea’s largest ally.

The Time Person of the Year will be announced on December 6th on the Today Show at 7 AM.
