This year, the Newburyport Yankee Homecoming Annual High School Battle of the Bands will take place virtually.

More details will be shared as the weeks progress, as the committee is working with local government and health officials to abide all the safety precautions. The dates for Yankee Homecoming this year are July 30 – August 8th. Students from Amesbury, Groveland, Georgetown, Haverhill, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, and West Newbury are all encouraged to participate and submit their videos.

The virtual Battle of the Bands would provide students an opportunity to remain engaged in the community and involve others in their musical talents and efforts. Most of these students have social media pages and accounts that would allow community members to view their bands. It is important to note that the Yankee Homecoming Committee Battle of the Bands does have its own Instagram page that follows several of the bands.

The Instagram handle is @Newburyportyhbattle, and bands are able to post one song with the tag #newburyporthbattlesubmission2021. The deadline is July 23, and once the deadline is met the judges will review the videos.

Each song will placed in a category for Bands, Acoustic/Solo, and a new category for “Most Viewed Video.” This will also be determined through Instagram. The winning videos will be posted on the Yankee Homecoming Facebook page as well as the Battle of the Bands social media sites.

Prizes have yet to be determined but will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

For more information, please check out the Yankee Homecoming Battle of the Bands website. It will be found under “HS Battle of the Bands Event.” Organizer Cheryl Munick can also be contacted at [email protected] if there are questions.
