The Pentucket administration got a makeover this year, with many new faces in many different positions. I know what it’s like to be new, as this year is my first year at Pentucket too; but one of the new people in administration coincidentally comes from where I do- he taught for twenty years at Salem High School, only a town away from me.
To get more information about who he is and where he comes from, I was able to chat with Mr. Bub, the assistant principal for grades eight and eleven at Pentucket. Mr. Bub taught history for twenty years. His favorite memories working at Salem are October in Salem. The energy is high and there is always something to do.
When talking to Mr. Bub I got to ask him what one of the challenges about making the switch to Pentucket was. He told me the hardest part of switching schools was changing everything he had known previously. They say it takes you one month to form a habit, but imagine how many you would form over the course of 20 years.
However, Mr. Bub was very excited to make the switch. His daughter and wife are both here. He also really enjoys working in the district he lives in. When asked if there was a difference between Salem and Pentucket, he said, “Problems are still problems just changing the location.”
Before the education system captured Mr. Bub, he spent his time in college working in group homes. Working in these group homes, he realized he wanted to work with kids and make a difference. He then substituted a special ed class and “fell in love.”
Mr. Bub describes himself as enthusiastic. Some of his strengths that make him a great leader are his listening skills and that he is strict but fair.
Outside of school, Mr. Bub is passionate about anything outdoors. He also coaches hockey and soccer. When asked what he would do if he was given $100,000, he responded by making an outdoor activities club. This would involve fishing, hunting, cycling, skiing, snowshoeing and more. We hope he starts this club, even if he isn’t given the $100,000.
When I asked Mr. Bub what he was like in high school, I was a little surprised. He was so passionate about hockey he thought a helmet was just a suggestion. He learned quickly it was not when he lost his front teeth. He was quite the stud with electric blue hair and 27 piercings.
Mr. Bub is a fantastic addition to our district, and I was honored to get to know him more. Make sure to say hi to him in the halls when you see him!
