Is it wrong to charge students this amount of money? Or is it a privilege to have a parking spot on campus? The cost for Pentucket students to park is currently $180.00, which to some is an extraordinary amount. Some people are unable to afford that amount, or do not want to spend their money on it.
Pentucket students who park in the upper lot should not pay the same amount as those who park in the lower lot. Students who park in the lower lot have a faster walk into school making it more accessible. The students who park in the upper lot have it harder; such students have mixed opinions on whether this parking is fair or not.Â
The walk from the upper lot is longer which makes students late for class, and can make students feel rushed to get to school on time, and still have enough time to put sports bags in the locker room, or a meeting that someone might need to go to. People could get here at 7:15 and still end up being late to their first period class, because of the walk that the people who park in the upper lot have to endure. Especially, if they do a sport, putting your bag down in the locker room adds time that some people just do not have.  Â
The lower lot, which is closer to the school, has more of an advantage. People who park in the lot closer to the school have much easier access to get inside the school if the weather conditions are unpleasant.
If there were to be a torrential downpour at the start of the school day and you weren’t at the lot closer to the school, then you had to plan accordingly and bring a raincoat with the appropriate footwear, but unfortunately many students came to class soaking wet from head to toe.Â
Parking in the upper lot is unfair for a number of reasons; it could be snowing and icy going down the hill to the school. Some students could get injured and have a difficult time going up and down the hill. This affects all students in the upper or lower lot, no matter what. No matter, upper or lower lot, there will always be something that will prevent students from getting to school on time. This is an ongoing problem at Pentucket; parking conditions need to be improved and fair for all students.Â
